JOB TITLE: Preventive Maintenance Technician


Responsibilities include installation and PM of HVAC and Refrigeration systems. Unpacking, placing, and installing of commercial refrigeration equipment.  This position may require travel of 50-75%.



Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


1.Primarily responsible for performing preventative maintenance on all refrigeration/HVAC systems for a customer per the PM scope (cleaning coils, changing filters, verifying unit in correct working order).

2.Responsible for following PM scope of work and completing proper documentation of preventative maintenance to turn in to crew leader for submission.

3.Selects type and size of pipe, related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and piping design, according to specifications to install small equipment.

4.Works with crew leader to utilize blueprints to install or repair of small refrigeration systems to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.

5.Unloads, installs, and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.

6.Operates machinery to verify working condition before completing PM.

7.Maintain all job-related documentation and turn in to crew leader on a weekly basis.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                     

This position has no supervisory responsibilities and reports to the PM Crew Leader.




EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:                                                   

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-3 years related mechanical/HVAC experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  Commercial piping/brazing ability a preferred plus.  EPA certification is a preferred plus.  Experience on commercial refrigeration and food service jobs is a preferred plus.



Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write reports, correspondence, and provide documentation in a timely manner.


REASONING SKILLS:                                           

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as voltages, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; working near moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
