This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals with a great attitude who are looking to jump-start their careers. The program is approximately a 12 month training period where you will responsible for learning the design process of Stock Building Supply’s component systems for single- and multi-family residential, repair and remodel and light commercial construction. The Design Trainee will also handle client inquiries regarding design, estimating, and placing orders. After the training period is complete you will transition into a design function and continue to build your career.

The Designer in Training program will consist of the following:

- Learning to prepare bids, layouts and engineered profiles using design programs and software.
- Studying local building codes and material constraints when developing material list and design layout.
- Spending time learning how to properly measure and scale projects on-site.
- Producing layout drafts for structural components and others as assigned.
- Attending training as required maintaining current knowledge of drafting and relevant aspects.
- Working closely with retail clients, builders, framers and developers to answer design questions and offer design solutions.
- Using computer or other technical equipment to prepare a technically accurate layout (takeoff) of customer order.
- Designing other components as directed by management

Requirements:

4 Year Degree/ 2 year technical school with a concentration in architectural or design related field
6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer knowledge of: Design Software, Word Processing Software, Data Base Software
