Company Overview:

Barnhill Contracting Company’s success is built on the values, principles and vision of the man – Robert E. Barnhill, Sr. – whose name we proudly bear.  Robert Barnhill built this company on a foundational belief that there is power in people. He was a motivator. A hard worker. A leader of leaders. His passion for people and his firm belief in the Golden Rule – treating others as you want to be treated – still drive us today. We are firm, flexible and honest. We do the right thing, every single time. We empower our leaders in the field to be decision makers. We are easy to work with – a core philosophy that is both intentional and deliberate. One that requires discipline. Grit. All of these qualities, along with our founder’s vision, have helped grow Barnhill Contracting Company into one of the Southeast’s leading contractors.

Our success is built from the dedicated service of each and every one of our employees. Construction is hard work – long hours and immense pressure to meet critical deadlines – and we are proud to employ the most talented group of people in the industry. When you join the Barnhill team, you become part of the Barnhill Family.

2018 Grading and Paving Division Internship Program – Asphalt

Summer Internships are available in May/June 2018 for students interested in working in the highway/road construction industry. The internship is an eleven (11) week program.  Barnhill is a full-service construction company offering services in commercial building, site infrastructure and transportation construction.

Barnhill has built thousands of miles of runways and highways throughout the state of North Carolina. They call us the “Good Roads State” and we are proud of the designation. Our team fuses speed, efficiency and extensive knowledge to deliver some of the most complicated transportation projects ever undertaken in our region. We lead by building a sense of consensus on the project to deliver practical and innovative transportation solutions that meet the long-term needs of our communities.

America rides on asphalt. Since constructing our first plant in 1966, Barnhill has embraced asphalt manufacturing technology every step of the way. With 16 operating asphalt plants, we are a leader in the industry.  Currently 94% of our country’s roadways are surfaced with asphalt. With an increased focus on sustainable growth and economic benefit, asphalt will continue to lead the market in pavement selection.  Asphalt is America’s most recycled and reused material, recycled and reused at a rate of just over 99%.

Transportation construction has come a long way since Barnhill built the state’s first farm-to-market road in 1952. Today, agencies are expected to do more with less. We believe that embracing technology gives us an advantage in today’s market. Combining 3D modeling with GPS machine control allows us to complete projects faster with improved quality and safety. Gone are the days of pulling stringline. Using 3D model data, GPS-enabled equipment achieves accurate grades on the first pass, reducing waste and eliminating the need for costly re-work. Pavement selection.
